Strawberry season at our house means making a simple sugar-free strawberry keto jam.
Let me show you how to make strawberry keto jam eliminating spending $4-$7 for a jar depending on the brand.
Fruits Are Mother Nature’s Candy
There’s a reason why eating fruit on a ketogenic diet is not suggested and that’s because they are high in natural sugars.
Have you ever eaten a fruit and it tastes as sweet as candy?
It’s easy to eat too many fruits and even berries that are low in carbs can add up quickly.
Although there is naturally occurring sugar in strawberries they are still one of the top berries allowed on a keto diet.
One cup of raw strawberries is equal to 7 grams of sugar which are natural and very low compared to other fruits.
Strawberries also contain 3 grams of fibre in one cup of strawberries which helps to reduce the carb count.
If you were to eat one cup (4 ounces) of sliced strawberries that would be 8 grams of carbs – 3 grams of fibre equalling 5 net carbs.
Strawberries are also a great source of vitamin C and rich in antioxidants which help to control blood sugar in diabetics.
Other keto berries to consume would be raspberries, blueberries, mulberries, and blackberries.
Types Of Sweeteners For Strawberry Keto Jam
Making jam with erythritol or a Splenda strawberry jam are only two of many sweeteners available that are sugar-free.
Our favorite sweeteners to use are allulose, stevia, and erythritol.
We also keep Sukrin Gold brown sugar which is fantastic for keto baking or making a Keto BBQ sauce.

Strawberry Patch Fun At The Farm
We haven’t been to the strawberry patch since covid-19 but we plan on going this year if they allow us to pick.
If not then we will just stick with the Ruby Ann strawberries we have growing at our house.
The idea of picking strawberries with our son is to create memories and it’s his favourite fruit.
Cleaning Strawberries
Some people like washing strawberries in salt water or give them a spray with water and vinegar and then rinse.
Growing Organic Strawberries
We grow strawberries in hanging baskets but we use them to eat rather than making keto jam.
There’s never enough strawberries ready at the same time to make a keto strawberry jam.
This year I’m growing Ruby Red Strawberries which are tiny strawberries.
I also tend to buy mini strawberries which I admit to walking by the baskets and grabbing a few to munch on.
Be careful though because the chipmunks, bees and rabbits like strawberries so eat them when they are ripe.
Types Of Strawberries
There are so many types of strawberries available that most people aren’t aware of.
June is typically the start of strawberry picking season in Ontario.
The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food And Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) has a fantastic strawberry guide for anyone interested.
Below is only a tiny snippet of the types of strawberries available throughout the season.

Storing Strawberries
If you don’t plan on eating your strawberries right away don’t wash them until you do as they will spoil quickly from the moisture.
You can store strawberries on the counter for a maximum of 2 days and they must be eaten.
We store our strawberries in the refrigerator in the container if we buy them at the grocery store.
When we pick them from our garden pots or from the strawberry farm we layer them in a container and refrigerate covered.
If you find any moldy strawberries take them out as it spreads to the other berries quickly.
You can also put strawberries into a freezer bag and store them until you need them.
We make keto strawberry ice cream, smoothies, and keto strawberry jam with frozen strawberries.
One of Mrs. CBB’s favourite snacks is 2 slices of Keto Protein Bread toasted with butter and strawberry keto jam.
You can add Strawberry keto jam to a 90% sugar-free Lindt bar with peanut butter and it’s delicious.
You have plenty of options if you don’t eat your strawberries as soon as you bring them home or harvest them.
