Recently I made this easy keto chili recipe, and boy was it delicious, even without beans.
YES, you can eat chili on keto as long as you portion what you eat and count macros.
In Canada, chili is a classic winter favourite in our house, both keto and non-keto chili.
You might also like a turkey chili which is great for keto if you want to swap out the protein.
On the menu, today is an easy keto chili made in a big stove-top pot in 40 minutes.
I’ve also bottled and created a small amount of sugar-free chili seasoning powder.
You’ll also notice down below what you’ll find in a store-bought chili seasoning packet.
Ok, let me show you how I made the keto chili and budget-friendly keto chili seasoning.
The above photo is keto chili loaded with shredded old cheddar cheese and sour cream.
On day two of eating leftover chili, I wanted to dip pork rinds and homemade keto bread.

I dipped the pork rind into the chili and scooped it up with a bit of cheddar, sour cream and jalapenos.

How Many Carbohydrates Are In Kidney Beans?
For all of you who need beans in your chili, add them if you’re not keto.
The nutrition facts for 3.5 ounces (100 grams) of boiled kidney beans are:
- Calories: 127.
- Water: 67%
- Protein: 8.7 grams.
- Carbs: 22.8 grams.
- Sugar: 0.3 grams.
- Fiber: 6.4 grams.
- Fat: 0.5 grams.

Beans are high in carbohydrates, so it’s not on the list of approved keto foods for those on a keto diet.
That’s pretty much the only difference between the two chili recipes.
When Mrs. CBB and I created this list, we wanted to keep it as simple as possible.
Often when someone starts a keto diet, they think they have to buy unique products.
That’s not the case because you’re substituting for other options for what you are no longer buying.
Most of us already have lots of these keto ingredients in our pantry or on our shopping list.
Crock-Pot, Stove-Top or Instant-Pot Keto Chili
Some of you may like to use a crockpot or Instantpot to make chili, but I’m old-school.
Please don’t laugh, but we have had an Instant Pot for over a year and haven’t opened it.
Consumer reviews say the Instant Pot is impressive, but we can’t get away from using the stove-top.
I’ve made chili recipes in both the crockpot and stove-top, and they are delicious.
The only downfall with a crockpot is that sometimes sauces will burn around the edges.
I’m not a massive fan of that; however, I only started using the crockpot when I moved to Canada.
I find it alters the recipe’s taste that I’m attempting to make, and it bugs me.
For anyone with a crockpot, leave me your secrets below, and I’ll give them a try.

Homemade Seasonings Are Cheap To Make
Below is my homemade taco seasoning, which is keto-friendly as well.
If you can stay away from seasoning packets, you’ll be better off.
Besides, making homemade seasonings are cheaper, and you can read the ingredient list.
A typical packet of seasoning at the grocery store ranges in price from $129- $1.99 or on sale $0.89-$0.99.
You’ll also notice down below what you’ll find in a store-bought chili seasoning packet.
Ok, let me show you how I made the keto chili and keto chili seasoning.
You can double or triple the keto chili seasoning below, like in the photo and keep it stored in a jar.
Keto Chili Seasoning Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
As you can see from the ingredient list on the chili packet, there are many we’d have to Google.
Besides the obvious, I’m sure they are preservatives to keep the product longer on the shelves.
When you make homemade chili seasoning, don’t make more than you need for two meals.
It’s easy to make it fresh when you need it.
Chili Toppings To Jazz It Up
By my calculations, one bowl of 1 cup of my chili recipe equals around 8 net carbs, including the toppings.
I bought these cool mugs at the Dollar Store to write what food is in the bowl.
Not bad for $2.
Other Delicious Chili Toppings
- Chopped Green Onion
- Parsley or Corriander
- Sourcream
- Franks Red Hot Sauce (or any you like)
- Sliced Jalapenos
- Shredded Old Cheddar, mozarella or Parmigianno Regianno Cheese
- Diced pickles
- Hot Pepper Rings
- Saurkrauet
- Add the chili to a hotdog

Depending on the chili toppings that you choose, it will alter the net carbs slightly.
How To Make Keto Chili
Chili Ingredients
- 2 pounds of ground beef
- 3 cups beef broth (We use Organika Beef Broth ) unless we have homemade in the freezer.
- 2 cloves of garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
- 2 green peppers washed and sliced thin
- 1 small green zucchini shredded thin
- 2 fresh jalapenos washed sliced with seeds removed then sliced thin
- 1 small white onion minced
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (We use Braggs Organic Apple Cider Vinegar)
- 1 teaspoon pink salt (add more if you like more)
- 2 cans of tomatoes (1 crushed, 1 whole) 26 -28 oz each depending on what you can find or order on Amazon.
- 1 can tomato paste 156 ml
- 1 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
- 3 tablespoons of homemade chili seasoning (add more or less based on your taste buds)

Steps To Make Keto Chili
- If you have homemade beef broth ready to go great. If not and you are using Organika Beef Broth or a boxed version now is the time to get it ready. The organika is easy add hot water to the powder as per the instructions on the bottle. Set it aside until needed. You will need 3 cups of beef broth.
- In a large pot add the extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil, minced garlic and the 2 pounds of minced beef
- Using a wooden spoon and on medium high heat cook the meat by breaking it up until browned.
- Drain the fat
- Add the cooked beef back into the pot and all of the other ingredients, including the broth.
- Mix well and bring it to a boil then reduce the heat to medium high and sit a pot lid part way over the pot to prevent splashes.
- Stir every ten minutes and give it a taste. You may want to add more chili seasoning, salt, pepper etc.
- This recipe is based on our taste buds but with seasonings you can always add but you can’t take away.
- At 40 minutes cooking on medium high your keto chili will be done.
- Serve as is or with your favourite chili toppings (see blog post)
