Every once in a while, the cigar team here at Effortless Gent finds a brand or line of cigars that we just fall in love with. So today, we’d like to take the time to introduce you to one of our new favorites: La Aurora, and in particular, their legendary 107 line of cigars.

We’ll be introducing you to the history of the La Aurora brand before giving you a complete rundown of our favorite smokes from their 107 line.

Then, to wrap things up, we have a cigar quiz (courtesy of La Aurora) to help you identify the perfect stick for your tastes.
A Little Bit About La Aurora Cigars
Founded in the Dominican Republic in 1903, La Aurora has set the standard for premium craftsmanship for over a century. La Aurora is known for their masterful blends, impeccable construction, and meticulous attention to detail.

Eduardo Leon, the founder of La Aurora, probably never imagined that his small family-owned business would become the worldwide phenom that it is today. In fact, it’s the most internationally popular Dominican cigar brand, with representation in 60 countries across 5 continents!

Each year, La Aurora is making more of their famous cigar styles available in the United States. Just last year, they introduced their 100% Nicaraguan tobacco puro cigars in the U.S., making them one of less than a dozen such region-specific cigars available to American consumers.

Debuting in 2010 to mark their 107th anniversary and featuring tobacco from all around the world, La Aurora’s 107 line of cigars has received many accolades in the cigar world. Regularly ranking above 90 points in reviews, they feel like luxury cigars — but are sold at a very reasonable price, under $10 a stick.

Let’s take a closer look at EG’s favorite smokes from the 107 line, complete with tasting notes:
La Aurora 107 Ecuador Toro
Measuring in at 5.5 inches long with a 54 ring gauge, La Aurora’s 107 Toro makes for an excellent everyday smoke. The Nicaraguan and Dominican long fillers are bound in a rich Dominican wrapper, giving a robust smoke with a surprisingly mellow draw.
La Aurora 107 Ecuador Toro $159
The 107® Ecuador celebrates the complexity of hand-harvested, sun-grown Ecuadorian wrapper and its aroma of cocoa and spice. It begins subtly and builds to a medium-to-full-bodied smoke layered with notes of coffee, leather, and wood.

You’ll find hints of ginger alongside dark coffee and chocolate tones, with a pleasant citrus zest finish accented by notes of leather.

Overall, it’s an excellent introduction to the 107 line! Plus, it feels much more luxurious than its price might seem to indicate.
La Aurora 107 Nicaragua Robusto
Made entirely of Nicaraguan filler and wrapper tobacco, the 107 Nicaragua Robusto is an absolute pleasure to smoke. Its slightly red-tinted, dark robusto flavor comes on strongly peppery, but quickly mellows to coffee bean and almond sweetness.

By the end of the smoke, you’ll notice the cedarwood and leather notes coming together into a creamy finish. It has a voluminous but even draw, and would pair beautifully with a glass of cognac.
La Aurora 107 COSECHA Churchill
A large and imposing smoke, the 107 Cosecha is a 47 gauge Churchill style cigar. If you’re looking for a long, contemplative smoke, this is definitely the one for you.
La Aurora 107 Cosecha Churchill From $90
A complex blend of Brazilian, Nicaraguan, and Dominican tobaccos give our 107® Cosecha a smooth, flavorful smoke. Complemented by a hand-harvested Ecuadorian HVA wrapper, this cigar delivers a medium-to-full bodied experience with an unexpected combination of citrus and cocoa

The Ecuadorian-grown wrappers along with the blend of tobacco add pleasant citrus and cocoa notes, giving this cigar a complex and ever-changing flavor. It’s a medium- to full-bodied smoke that doesn’t come on too strong, and would pair wonderfully with any dark-hued beverage.
La Aurora 1903 Edition Preferidos “Emerald”
Each cigar in the Edition Preferidos line is a true luxury smoke featuring barrel-aged tobacco blends. Not to mention, the Emerald color really fits our tastes perfectly.

They’re made from a fine blend of Brazilian, Nicaraguan, and Peruvian tobaccos, rolled in an Ecuadorian wrapper, and then laid down five years of curing and aging. The final year is spent in an emptied rum barrel, imparting a thick and creamy flavor that’s layered with tropical fruits and exotic spices.
La Aurora 1903 Edition Preferidos “Emerald” $151
Crafted with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper with expertly aged Dominican binder and well-balanced filler, The Preferidos Emerald cigar delivers a rare smoking experience with an even burn and blend of both spice and sweetness.
