The holiday season will soon be here, and at Cooperating Ministry of Logan County, that means they are getting ready to assemble food baskets to help ensure area families in need will get to enjoy a special holiday meal.
Helping with that effort are some local volunteer groups who will be holding canned food drives to stock the food pantry’s shelves.
First is the Halloween food drive put on by clubs at Northeastern Junior College.
“Halloween night is lots of fun but if you see a monster, run, run, run! But if you see members of the Math & Science Club, Aggies Club, and the Crossroads Club give, give, give and what fun, fun, fun!” states a release from CMLC.
The student groups will be venturing out into the residential neighborhoods around campus on Halloween night, Oct. 31, to collect canned goods for Cooperating Ministry.
“Don’t let hunger related issues give you the creeps, help to carry out this tradition and support these local clubs in collecting food, because Halloween isn’t just for candy anymore,” the release states.
Less than a week later is another opportunity to give, as the Sterling Lions Club will join CMLC for a Feed the Hungry Day on Nov. 6 at the Sterling Walmart. The Lions will be collected canned goods for the Christmas Basket Program.
For those in need of food during the Christmas holiday season, the phone lines for CMLC’s annual Christmas Basket Program will be open to take names Monday, Nov. 1 through Nov. 30. Call Cooperating Ministry at 970-522-6405 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on business days to sign up, or walk in to give your information at 230 N. 10th Ave. (next to the bowling alley).
If you are signing someone else up other than yourself; please make sure that you have their permission to do so and their correct information. The Christmas Basket Program will only gift one basket per household, no matter how many people are living in the home. Absolutely no names will be taken from the voice mail system; you must call in during business hours and give your information to a live person and not a recording. Any names left on the voice mail system will be deleted and no basket will be delivered.
