Let’s take a look at each of the May & June 2nd Grade Morning Bins in action!

Morning Bin #1: Vocabulary

Students will read the vocabulary words, sort them into groups, and explain why they sorted them the way they did.

Morning Bin #2: Word Use

Students will read each set of words and put them in order according to their shade of meaning.

Morning Bin #3: Phonemic Awareness & Phonics

Students will read a word, listen to the vowel sounds and decide if there is a schwa sound or not.

Morning Bin #4: Writing Conventions

Students will read the root word and decide which suffix should be added to make a new word.

Morning Bin #5: Spelling Conventions

Students will spin the spinner and find a word that uses the ou or ow letter team.

Morning Bin #6: Text

Students will read the articles and use the information to compare and contrast cats and dogs.

Morning Bin #7: Sentences & Paragraphs

Students will read the paragraph and add a topic, supportive or concluding sentence to complete it.

Morning Bin #8: Parts of Speech

Students will read the sentence and decide if the underlined word is a noun, verb or adjective.

Morning Bin #9: Writing

Students will roll a die and use the character, setting and plot to write a story. 

Morning Bin #10: Logic & Critical Thinking

Students will use the clues to decide which item or event belongs to each kid.

Morning Bin #11: Add & Subtract

Students will roll a die and solve the addition or subtraction problem.  Then they will find the answer and circle it.

Morning Bin #12: Fluency

Students will spin the spinner, double the number, add one and cover the answer.

Morning Bin #13: Multiplication Foundations

Students will look at the array and find the repeated addition expression that matches it.

Morning Bin #14: Place Value

Two partners will each flip a card, write the number and compare the two numbers.

Morning Bin #15: Counting & Skip Counting within 1000

Students will flip a card and count on by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Morning Bin #16: Measurement & Estimation

Students will estimate and measure line segments and compare.

Morning Bin #17: Time & Money

Students will count coins and use a catalog to decide if they can buy the items. Then they will find the difference in change.

Morning Bin #18: Data & Graphing

Students will read a data card and decide which graph the data belongs to.

Morning Bin #19: Shapes & Fractions

Students will divide the rectangle into rows and columns and count the parts.

Morning Bin #20: Critical Thinking

Students will solve the equations to find the value of each item.  Then they will solve the final equation using the values.

Morning Bin #21: Social & Emotional

Students will reflect on how they felt at the beginning of the school year versus how they feel at the end.
